The Myths Of Acting
I will keep this short and to the point. Most people associate acting with fame and fortune. This can't be further from the truth. In fact there are stats out there that Screen Actors Guild publish that something like 85 % of the Unions membership earn less than $25,000 per year. ( This is from my recollection but please check this if you like ) This simply means that the people who try to pursue this highly competitive profession either do so because of their passion or because they are mislead. From parents who try to stick their cute or not so cute kids in commercials, looking for a meal ticket to regular people who search for ultimate validation, the acting profession attracts people from all walks of life. From lawyers, cops, judges, executives to students and young children. So other that validation and peer approval, what is the attraction ? You will probably make very little money, so why do people do this. The best way to describe this phenomenon I think is
to say that most people are really never happy with their life choices and to be able to live what is only a perceived fantasy job appeals to most. This is why a lawyer after spending years doing what he does, decides to make a rash career change. leaving behind his life in the pursuit of fame and fortune. The truth is most of these people after realizing it is a tough business to survive in usually return to the real world and pick up where they left off. Some however, the lottery winners, reap a percentage of the fame and fortune they set out to achieve.
